Real Madrid proved once again why they called the best football club among Europeans. Real snatched the trophy from Atletico again Defeating Atletico Madrid by 5-3 in the penalty shootout, Real won the trophy of UEFA Champions League 2016. Before the match, the Real camp was living in a tense atmosphere about the fitness of Cristiano Ronaldo who got injured during the training session earlier in the week.
Since Ronaldo is the most attacking player of Real so their plan was simple pass the ball to him and see what he can do. While Atletico’s gameplan was more complex. The defensive mindset of Atletico’s manager Diego Simeone once again proved. They boast of their midfielder Koke, Saul Ninguez and Gabi which proved in previous matches.
Sergio Ramos of Real Madrid scored the first goal of the match and gave the team an early lead over the opposition Atletico. After the half-time, Atletico came out firing Antoine Griezmann missed a penalty just minutes after the break.
Real got so many chances to double their lead but unable to convert it into goals. In the 78th minutes, Atletico’s Yannik Carrasco put the ball into the goal and leveled the goal by 1-1.
After 90 minutes, extra time was given but both the teams were unable to score any goal. There was still a doubt that who will lift the trophy. This prompted to introduce penalty shootout for the result.
Both teams converted the opportunity into goals on the first three chances. For Real Lucas Vazquez, Marcelo and Gareth Bale and from the other side Griezmann, Gabi and Saul Niguez leveled it to 3-3.

On the fourth chance, Ramos for Real hit another goal and make it 4-3. Atletico sent Juanfran for the fourth chance. He kicked the ball to left side of the post and the ball turned more towards the left and hit the post. And, Ronaldo’s goal at the end helped Real to win the cup.
Real dominated possession early, but the match remained slow because of fouls in regular intervals. Dani Carvajal was shown the yellow card for a rash tackle on Griezmann and Juanfran.
Real maintained control on the game, and while it didn’t have many chances, it kept Atletico away from Keylor Navas’ goal. Within 25 minutes for Atletico who got a real chance toward the goal, with Juanfran blasting the ball well off target because of good work by Filipe Luis.
Carrasco was introduced by Diego Simeone at half-time, with the Belgian replacing Augusto Fernandez and Griezmann splitting out wide. Just one minute into the half, Griezmann played a pass into the box toward Fernando Torres, and Pepe comes forward that result into a penalty.
Griezmann lashed the ball down the center but hit the crossbar, and unable to level the goals.
Fernando Torres and Griezmann was tasked with bridging the gap between midfield and attack.
Los Rojiblancos were in charge, however, with Koke was also making an effort. Carrasco then found Saul Niguez with a good cross, but couldn’t hit on target.
Atletico was creating pressure on Real, and it makes Real gradually grew more comfortable. Benzema got a good chance to add one more goal to Real when Luka Modric sent him through on goal with a delightful pass, but the shot went straight to Oblak.
Oblak was standing firmly between Real and the goal post. Every time Real wanted to score the goal but found Oblak every time in his way. Real gave a final push in the last minutes but couldn’t target the goal and get the extra time.
Real gave pace in the second half of extra time, but once again not able to connect. Lucas Vazquez had blocked a shot and Real pushed late. But later on, penalties decided the champion of the league. Real snatched the trophy from Atletico again It was another title for Real Madrid, it is their 11th European title. For Atletico, they have lost yet another final. They have lost in 2014 and also failed to make it this time too.
